June Means Fresh Fish in MT

Over the last few days the fishing on our local spring creeks (Armstrong’s Spring Creek and Depuy’s Spring Creek) was not too shabby.  Which is to say that even though we are between the madness of early spring and the PMD’s of summer the fishing is still solid.  It’s solid because the fish are like the rest of the landscape, fresh.  They are ready to go and haven’t been pricked and lifted out of the water for quite some time.  Also like me, they are hungry and will eat lots of different things.  Midges, both dry and wet, beatis, sow bugs, and a smattering of PMD’s are feeding the fish.  Here is a photo of a brown that fell for a hanging midge…
